Mama 6.5" Alpaca Fiber Sculpture
Mama Alpaca is a loving and protective parent, always keeping a watchful eye over her crias. She can often be seen grazing on the grassy hillsides, with his crias happily frolicking around him. When the crias wander a bit too far, Mama Alpaca is quick to call them back with a loud bray. He also makes sure to stay close to his crias to protect them from predators. Her sweet, gentle demeanor and protective nature make her an admirable parent... Hand knit chullo hats are sold separately.
What is a Mama Alpaca?
This fabulous Mama Alpaca Fiber Sculpture is made entirely by hand, and proudly stands 6.5 inches tall. Each little face is sewn and created with love. She comes in rich natural colors that reflect a small portion of her vast color scheme in nature. In addition, we have added brilliant colors which we dye by hand in small batches to attain an intense hue. Just like the live animals, these little ones do well in herds. The custom hats are hand knit for our little friends, complete with ear holes, and sold separately. The Mama Alpaca Fiber Sculpture is finished with a loop for hanging or may stand and graze. Due to the hand crafting process, each piece is unique with slight variations.
What Is Alpaca Fiber?
Alpaca was once considered a gift from the gods and the most important relic of the history of the Incas. Alpacas are camelids since they share genetic material with camels. However, they are one of the four native species native species to South America.
There are two distinct breeds of these four-legged animals: the Huacaya alpaca and the Suri alpaca. The types of fiber derived from each of these types of alpacas are equally prized for different reasons. Fiber derived from alpacas can be either heavy or light depending on how it is spun, which means that it is ideal for a number of different kinds of products. Compared to sheep’s wool, alpaca fiber is considerably softer, and it is also more durable.

Needle felting is a dry felting method generally using wool with its barbs that felt quickly and easily. We use alpaca for a softer and more artistic effect. This art form is quick, easy, inexpensive, requires very few tools, and takes up very little space.
